Energy Independence
It’s hard to imagine that only 10 years ago the U.S. was on the verge of an energy crisis. Worried the U.S. would soon run out of natural gas, the industry and policymakers developed plans to build import terminals to bring in foreign gas supplies from Europe and South America. For the first time in decades, the U.S. faced a difficult choice between energy shortages or increased dependence on foreign energy.
That was 10 years ago. Then the American natural gas revolution came.
Thanks to major technological innovations in drilling techniques over the last decade, we are now able to tap into vast supplies of domestic natural gas that we once thought unreachable. The U.S. now has a reliable domestic supply of natural gas for more than 100 years.
With abundant, domestic natural gas, we don’t have to import our energy from overseas, and we can depend on an affordable electricity supply for generations to come. That means lower electricity bills for families and businesses and lower costs to produce all the goods made from natural gas.
